Congratulations to Ron Franklin on his new position
Ron Franklin has decided to leave Green & Chercover to pursue a Legal Aid practice at Parkdale Community Legal Services, which provides one of the province’s most comprehensive workers’ rights legal aid clinics. After articling with the CAW and Green & Chercover, Ron spent his first year as a lawyer with the firm and was a great colleague, whose humour and enthusiasm will be missed. We wish him all the best as he embarks on this next phase of his career and look forward to having opportunities to work with him in the future.

Congratulations to Terri Hilborn on her new position with the YRPA
Green & Chercover would like to congratulate our colleague Terri Hilborn on her new position as legal counsel for the York Regional Police Association. She will be missed by her colleagues and other clients. We wish Terri much success in her new position.

Susan Ursel speaks on the new Human Rights System
Susan Ursel was a speaker at the Ontario Bar Association's program "The New Ontario Human Rights System: What It Means for Your Practice" on June 11, 2007. She spoke on anticipated procedural changes and issues at the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario in light of the changes brought in by the Human Rights Code Amendment Act, 2006.

Susan Ursel was a panelist at "A Summit on Gender and Diversity in Law: Moving Forward as a Profession" on May 1, 2007 at the University of Toronto Law School. She spoke on the panel "Sowing the Seeds of Change - Transforming and Humanizing the Profession".

Susan Ursel was a panelist at the University of Toronto Law School's International Women's Day panel on Diversity, Gender and Retention in the Legal Profession, organized by Dean Mayo Moran and Professor Brenda Cossman on March 8, 2007. The panel members participated in a lively discussion about the issues of work-life balance in the profession and the experiences of members of equity-seeking communities in the profession.

Congratulations to David A. Wright on his appointment to the Human Rights Tribunal
Green & Chercover wish to congratulate our colleague and friend David A. Wright on his recent appointment to the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO). While we and our clients will miss David and his valued contributions on both a professional and personal level, we know he will make his mark in the field of Human Rights as a Vice-Chair of the HRTO.

On February 13, 2007, Barrie Chercover and Terri Hilborn spoke to members of the Police Association of Ontario on the impact of mandatory retirement on police agreements and collective bargaining.
